The State of The Left

So of course many of us are blog-jumping and newsmongering today, listening to prezpreachers, peers, and pundits. Trying to figure out why we care. I don't need to hear what a sampling of talking heads think to have my opinions- but its nice to know how things were 'received' in the valley of political animals. Anyone have a particularly interesting link to throw the Noose community?(continued)

I began the day thinking Kaine's speech was better than I expected, and my opinion hasn't changed despite the fact that just about everyone seems to disagree. The speech had some new language, some new direction than what we are used to from Democrats. While admittedly goofy, Kaine managed to cover a lot of ground in a short window of time. Am I suggesting that we beheld perfection? Certainly not! But what are we 'on the left' willing to concede? Is there something to this idea that we are obsessed with negativity and defeatism? Are we pathologically critical to the point of dysfunction? Can we ever see success in even a half assed overture? Where are we 'on the left' with our expectations?
Now I am a rabid third party chick myself. I don't think either of them go far enough, and find that many of the 'liberals' I know describe their priorities as point by point in line with the greens, perhaps unknowingly.. But the greens are a bit confused as of late and I certainly don't blame anyone for being Democrats by default in this broken system. I've worked for a few Democrats, and I've respected them. My loyalty is fluid, and responsive to where I see the parties going. No blanket endorsements, no habitual voting. I do think we on the left must hold their feet to the fire a bit more on issues because we are losing ground. That their talking points even get attention ought to incite riotry! We face an ongoing agenda of hate and consumaculture, and we need to offer up something reasonable. So... hash this bitch out.
Who might have been a better choice? Some have put forth some fine hindsight candidates. But let's remember that each are frought with baggage of their own. Hillary? (snort) Gore? Obama? Who?
I thought about the frequent criticisms we frequently hear about the 'left' and the ways that the speech spoke to those issues. Tax and spend, bloated budgets? Certainly points were made that cronyism and deficit spending do not amount to sound policy. Inefficiency? I think he at least tried to speak to that, albeit clumsily. Where did he go wrong with you? The "faith" thing, the eyebrows?

The Problem with Keane is he is a new face and his Eye Brow Spock-Shining Arch kept making him look evil.

The problem with Kaine is that he's anti-gay in his actions and willing to use the power of state government against minority groups.

I nominate Bill Maher for party leadership. With him as candidate and Dean as DNC chair, we will not worry about having a spine.

I tried to read the text of Bush's speech online today, but my anti-bullshit protect software kept freezing the whole thing. God knows I couldn't watch the thing.

The Gov, does have something odd about him,, he almost has fetal features. As far as Bill Maher goes, I'm with you. But women like my wife hate him and think he's a total Misogynist. Good thought though.

Well Bill Maher readily admits to double standards and inconsistencies where men and women are concerned. He makes many important points (and made them way back as well!)on key things like oil addiction, American laziness, and food additives. But its hard to get past his views on what is sexually appropriate- case in point being that rape of a minor boy is ok because it is the fulfillment of their fantasy. Bill has to pander to the adolescent demographic to the detriment of his own credibility, unfortunately. I say unfortunately because on many matters, he is right on!
But so are Dave Chappelle, Howard Stern,Carlos Mencia, and other comedians that 'tell it like it is'.
Something to be said for cutting the bullshit.
Men want truth - but with a little bit 'a beer and cleavage.

Well if men want the truth with beer and cleavage then I am indeed screwed...I only serve Tea at the Enigma Cafe ( and the occasional spiked drinks during hapless moments) and whelp that cleavage thing ahem...that ain't happening either....If I was gonna look like Sopia Loren it would have happened by now?!....but I think many women Bloggers ( the Blogettes) we have a way of Cutting a very sharp Truth, maybe its because we have more knives in the drawer.....

Now I got completely distracted and way off subject...Lilly I do thank you for taking pity on my ol'eyeballs- because I need to come over here and have a read...and nod and a laugh...and a sanity and intellect check...mercy buckets...

Enigma,
How positively selfless of you!!!

Now didn't McCain dump his wife? And I was around NYC when Giuliani had his friend on the side...no big thing.. people don't seem concerned about old fashioned things like fidelity anymore...

enigma4ever said...

Well I just figure Divorced status is not going to hurt him...and if he is with another divorced person- that kind of nullifys it right ? makes him look human, like he has a heart.....and yeah- I am sooooo selfless..not really..but my heart does beat pretty hard when he talks about Impeachment....
