Hiatus

Going to Washington, DC in a few days, then on to Florida. Lots of things going on in August.
What are some of you seeing as a response in your local communities, groups, activist and other networks- to the war in the Middle East? Anyone out there involved in Code Pink or other groups still working toward an end to the occupation of Iraq?
Check out Peace Train this week for some perspectives. One recent post is from Changeseeker who is in Wash D.C. right now, protesting the actions in Lebanon. Tina has a post today on white phosphorous- is this being used now by Israel?

I am involved in the Project to end not just this war but the Next War and All War. Its called ending capitalism and it's rather large and time consuming.Could use all the help i can get.

I'm not sure ending capitalism is necessary in order to stop all wars. I dont even know that all wars can be stopped.

But does this mean we shouldn't have a standard about what we kill for?

Im my neighbourhood I hear some, but not very much, about the war. People are very busy trying to organize to get Dennis Kucinich to run again in '08.

Have a good time Lily. BE SAFE!

Kucinich SHOULD run, and he should give voice to the establishment of a Dept of Peace as he has been doing!

I'm surprised that there isnt more protesting going on.

This may sound surprising coming from a conservative, but I agree that Kucinich should run. And if he did, I would support him in the primaries. (As a registered independent, I have the option of choosing a Republican or Democratic primary ballot.) I think his ideas are worth more public discussion than they got in '04.

Elizabeth Branford said...

In some states, independents cannot vote in ANY primary, they dont have a choice. They are excluded from all.

What do you think of his work on legislation for a cabinet level Dept of Peace?

Your remarks, conservative or otherwise, are always helpful toward informing our discussions. Some of your other remarks have not been "typically conservative" either. We are creatures with many views and opinions, not always captured by a blanket ideology.

I look forward to reading your thoughts when I get back from my travels.

There are some indications that Lebanese casualties have been victims of napalm.

I'd be interested to see concrete details for a Department of Peace; though if the Department of State that we already have were working properly, I think, it could rightly be called a Department of (the) Peace. I wouldn't like to see another Department set up which simply engages in redundancy of what already-existing bureaucracies are (or ought to be) doing. That is why I tend to look with jaundice on the Department of Education.

And to the person who wrote about napam possibly being used in Lebanon: if true, that would be serious. It would be helpful if we all knew what the sources are on that.

Hey girl-I just came from DC! How do you like the Eastern Shores Bridge Traffic? Fun eh?
Thought I would stop by to say hello. Hope you're having fun.

Here are some links that I believe will be interested

No, thanks, anonymous. I'm not interested in using "Fast Find" to match myself with 100's of accredited degree programs. I'd have been better off with less education than I have now.

Hi Elizabeth,

I just checked your Peace Train and liked it a lot. I am against the occupation of Iraq or of any other country since I do not believe in this primitive thing called WAR.

Thanks for visiting my blod and please do come back.

Anita
