Blue Republic: Chicken Soup For The Blog Weary Soul

Part of what intrigues me about blogging is our ability to have a topical conversation, a dialogue with people sometimes from all around the world. Often blogs produce a mix unrivaled by natural social situations where we are often surrounded by like minded people. (unless you live where I live of course) But the problem with these conversations is that they require this time consuming blog hopping, and almost as quickly as the conversational thread begins- it is gone, replaced by a new post. Its a fast paced way of communicating and it can be hard to keep up with! Navigating it all takes time that quite frankly we might WANT to have but few do. So I have become a fan of the "forum" concept, which allows many different topic threads to emerge and a user can essentially do "one stop shopping" in one place on many issues of interest- from current events to culture. That is why I have hooked up with The Blue Republic as a contributor along with the scary likes of Rex Kramer, Danger Seeker...cont. ...
We intend to keep Lose The Noose up, but would like to look into more contributors or crossposters. (not to be confused with cross dressers, although they are always welcome at the Noose)If you want the love but not commitment- email us at losethenoose@yahoo.com. And stop by Blue Republic if you are in the neighborhood!

We are about- and have always been about- community. When we all worked together on Corruptco to celebrate corporate crime, many of us were not only impressed by our blogrades but came to feel a sense of commonality with them.

We will be on a brief hiatus over here, but will be back soon. -Elizabeth ("Lily")

i find just the opposite occurs with me. forums and threads are MUCH harder for me to digest. a longer path to take. weaving in all sorts of directions.

plus you don't get the artwork one would get on some other blogs.

i do read the blue republic from time to time but i DO prefer the OTHER kind of blog

Yes, thats what used to turn me off of forums- but they do post pictures, Glenda posts some excellent stuff, cartoons, etc. but I know that it is very dependent on the format. Some other formats give me a headache.
What I like about their comments is that you can respond to ONE person and a subsection will appear with the link, without throwing off the whole topic for everyone else. Did you ever sift through eighty comments and find out that actually in there someplace somebody HAD responded to your point in a very helpful way but damn if it wasn't a bitch to locate in between other stuff? Or it starts as a political discussion but morphs into a discussion about what was on tv?

Also, did you ever read an older post and find out the blogger had responded with time and detail, but you missed it because you were gone for two days? And didn't go back? I feel bad when that happens but very often I do not see these responses. I like that at a glance- its all there, including from older threads.
The ones that focus on graphics like Neil's and Rory, and LOC- I will always go see!!! I'm not knocking blogs, I am knocking the difficulty and time it takes to have "discussions"- not the stand alone comments.

what? what? yet another blogger checking into rehab? what is going on here?

Anita said...

Wow, Lily, you're going into rehab? Where? Is your insurance covering it? You know, Eric Clapton's rehab in Antigua is supposed to be very nice.

Phew ... what a shocker!!

ELB said...

A shocker? I thought it was pretty predictable.

Anita said...

Well, I never got the sense from any of your posts (and I think I would pick up on something like that) that you were either an alcoholic or a drug addict, which is typically the reason why people go to 'rehab' ...

If your respose to me was a joke, well, then obviously the joke is on me because while I can be silly and I may not take a whole lot of this blogging stuff all that seriously, THAT is something I don't, and never will, deal with lightly.

Once again. My blogging bad.

There is definatly signs of evolution afoot in blogistan. I'm wondering if this is just what spring is like here or if it's a permanant trend.

Forum's are not self promoting enough. Eventually those who turn to them will miss the attention and management power of the blog and turn back to what they need. Forum's are not the wave of the future they are the wave of 90's porn.

Troll Watcher said...

Why join a forum when you can be annoyed right here at home?

I'm The Devil, Who The Hell Are You? said...

Ahh, spooky, you know it all-about 90's porn! How does it feel to be an agent of evil-me!

Elizabeth Lily Branford said...

Anita- Reverend Gisher is the one who said I was going into Rehab. You say you do not take rehab lightly but yet you made light of it right away by suggesting Clapton's rehab.

Gisher was teasing.

My Dear Spooky:
I did not say that they are the wave of the future, they are the wave of busy people trying to discuss topics but who find it difficult to get around in the blog community and then return.

What is there really to promote? Yes, some people go courting for traffic. Thats true. But if one's purposes are to connect and exchange ideas, it really doesn't matter to me who owns the playground.

I am not saying forums are for everyone, and I am not saying I will not blog. Blue Republic is a blog that ALSO offers forums. ANYONE can post a topic, even people that do not have blogs but have something to say.

Is that so bad, to have different formats for participation? I don't think so.
The key point is that different questions can be asked at the same time- I posted on Feingold for example, Glenda just posted on the pharmaceutical industry.

And for the record, I am not going to rehab. I hardly drink, do not do drugs, do not smoke, and shun prescription medication whenever possible except for today because I am on crutches after a nasty climbing accident- I'm allowing myself some tylenol.

I am a lefty, and I don't even get high.
Imagine that.

spooky said...

I'm a lefty too...left handed. Hope you recover well from your fall.

Elizabeth Lily Branford said...

Thank you, Spooky. It happened from sheer stupidity though, as is often the way with injury!

And see- we have something in common, You have hands! Spooky, is it always work with you? I think thats the closest thing to a joke I've seen. Hardly meets my expectations after your evil test results!!!

spooky said...

Thats what you get for being honest. Next time I take that test there going to get nothing, I'll come out at 95%, no matter what they ask.

spooky said...

I mean 95% not evil.

Elizabeth Branford said...

I would rather have a high evil score but tell the truth. Many of us did the bad things as young people before we knew better. I did not post my evil score! I give you credit for owning up.

Rex Kramer, Danger Seeker really is scary, isn't he? ;-)

Thanks for the tip about Blue Republic. I'll check it out.

like hell i was teasing. you are obviously faced most of the time. look at your writing....well actually don't do that people will start looking at mine. forget i said anything.

Elizabeth Branford said...

Gisher does not think I am a serious minded pundit of pussilient prattling.

You only know I am shitfaced because you buy my drinks. Stop enabling me.

Hi. I stopped by because I had noticed that a lot of the blogs I frequent have you blogrolled. Imagine my surprise and delight to find my blog linked here already! Thank you! I'm honored.

I actually find it easier to connect on a more intimate level via blogs, and emails springing from blogs than I have from bulletin boards of things like metablogger. I get overwhelmed at the volume of people participating and at the sheer number of tangents being pursued.

I'm not clear, are y'all abandoning this blog in favor of participating in The Blue Republic? I'd like to reciprocate the linkage, but if you're closing down, that would be sort of pointless.

Best wishes,

Diane S.

barnford closing down? she is like a virus, she is far more likely to replicate this blog.

ELB said...

NO!!! We are not closing down! I am just doing one post over there and trying to catch up on work. And I also wanted to explain that the forums are sometimes less time consuming for a discussion because suppose I answer you right now- you might not get back here to ever see it and then it is gone. My point is just that it is very hard to discuss an issue that way, for example.

We are not closing down. I certainly did not mean that.

ELB said...

Wait a minute- I am like a virus????

A virus? What kind of virus????

fosco said...

Its the Reverend Billy Bob Gisher syndrome Virus. Acquired Sanity Deficiency.

Diane S. said...

Glad to hear it (that you're not closing down). Linkage accomplished.

rev. billy bob gisher ©2005 said...

sanity? wtf? what the hell is sanity? i think i should be highly offended.

on a completely unrelated note: how come the consider the boot graphic link goes to photobucket?

OK, then. We're all evolving.

Well, except for, you know, Bubble Boy, and cheney and rummy and you know its nice to take some time off and forget about all that . . .
